Living with Osteoporosis? BoneFit Is Designed For You
Have you recently been diagnosed with osteoporosis? Are you unsure how to manage your condition and protect yourself from fractures and other injuries? The team at Bloor Jane Physiotherapy is here to help with an evidence-based approach to managing osteoporosis: BoneFit.
Osteoporosis affects approximately 11.9% of Canadians 40 years or older. This condition develops when your bone mass decreases, weakening your bones and leading to changes in their structure.
BoneFit is a scientifically-backed program that provides healthcare providers (like the team at Bloor Jane Physiotherapy) with specialized exercises explicitly designed for people with osteoporosis. These exercises can help protect you from the effects of the condition, including bone fractures.

Understanding Osteoporosis
Osteoporosis is often considered a “silent” disease. It doesn’t typically cause symptoms in and of itself, and many people never know they have it until they suffer a broken bone due to their decreased bone strength.
The condition primarily affects postmenopausal women (although men and people of any age can develop it, too). Your risk of developing it increases if you have a family history of the condition or are smaller-framed, as you’ll have less bone mass to lose than a larger-framed person.
Fortunately, regular physical activity, especially strength training, can help prevent osteoporosis. It can also help protect your bones if you have developed the condition. That’s where BoneFit comes in.
Effective, Evidence-Based Exercise Programs
The physiotherapists at Bloor Jane Physiotherapy have undergone BoneFit training and are excited to share our knowledge with you! We’ll work with you to develop a customized exercise program that’s proven safe and effective for people with osteoporosis.
Strength training, weight-bearing aerobic activities (like walking), and specialized training in balance, stability, and flexibility can all help mitigate the risks of osteoporosis. We’ll let you know which exercises are safe for you to perform and will ensure that you’re performing them correctly.
